Go to million people, and get a million answers. Objectively, when we hear the word ‘Feminist’ what do we really mean? A usual notion that the masses have is the glorification of women and perpetuation to the people about the problems women face in life.
What people easily push into oblivion is the need for equality. Feminism stands for equal treatment in society. And, historically speaking, this is a bleak reality that women as a community have faced the dark side of the latter.
Before understanding the typification of something as a ‘step back’ let’s understand what exactly a ‘step up’ is.
Well, when there is a positive development in terms of both emotionally and intellectually, a holistic step up takes place on an individual level.
Now, this ‘positive development’ can only be achieved by working beyond the domestic field or not?
The answer to the same is two-fold. One, yes! Being monetarily self-dependent holds supreme importance when it comes to the empowerment of women. However, two, we cannot deny that handling all the domestic chores is not everybody’s cup of tea. It requires an enhanced level of skill about which our domestic women are not even aware but they still ace it anyway.
But the question still remains the same, are home moms nothing but a stagnant entities? Well, while entering our homes let’s try not to look for our mothers, tough right?
To introduce an interesting avenue to this discussion, one would like to substantiate the concept of the “Digital wave of Feminism”
In today’s time of digitization, every woman in every house might not be educated enough but she will surely be knowing about youtube shorts and recipe videos. We now see women flaunting their domestic skills through the digital world. They get views, comments, and recognition, and that my readers, is a positive development. Even by sitting at home, women are becoming entrepreneurs and attempting to utilize their skills. The very ‘want’ to do the same speaks volumes about the future of women in society. Yes, there might be still numerous failures but even a tiny ray of sunshine makes it possible to create the capacity of the surrounding.
Henceforth, all the moms in today’s time who remain within the boundaries of their homes are still making a difference which is surely not a step back but a step up.
A step back is something when a woman is readily accepting to remain in a stagnant position where not recognizing her choices and desires by people around her acts as the cornerstone in diminishing the agenda of feminism. It is imperative to note that feminism does not solely depends upon the physical environment that you live in. You might be a working woman or a housewife, if you are letting the conventional excuses for women to stop your growth is where the step back comes into the picture.
To conclude, one would like to reopen the eyes of the readers by establishing that either staying at home or working, none of them determines the step up or step back in the context of the feminist agenda. It is the emotional and intellectual tangent of a woman that matters and determines one as a true feminist.
